Scope Of Role
The Technical Assurance & Accreditation Manager is responsible for leading the audit, inspection, certification and accreditation activities for fire protection installation companies across Europe and international markets. The role ensures full conformance to recognised certification schemes (VdS, NFPA, EN, DIN, FM Global, LPC) and drives the integrity of Mercury’s third-party assurance and accreditation framework.
Key Responsibilities Of The Role
Audit & Inspection Leadership
Plan and manage internal and external audits of fire protection systems and certified organisations across multiple regions.
Conduct technical inspections and compliance assessments in line with certification schemes and international fire protection standards.
Review and approve audit reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Drive audit findings to closure through structured corrective and preventive action processes.
Accreditation & Certification Management
Develop, maintain, and enhance certification procedures for fire protection installation companies across Europe and international markets.
Oversee assessment and approval processes for organisations seeking certification.
Ensure ongoing compliance with certification rules, accreditation frameworks, and internal governance standards.
Act as a subject matter expert for accreditation bodies and external stakeholders.
Technical Standards & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure full compliance with applicable codes and standards (VdS, NFPA, FM Global, EN, DIN, LPC).
Support the development and updating of technical guidelines and certification procedures specific to fire protection assurance.
Maintain accurate certification records and documentation in accordance with accreditation body requirements.
Team Leadership & Capability Development
Lead, mentor, and coordinate technical inspection and audit teams, including onboarding and scheduling of staff.
Build auditor/inspector competence through structured training programmes, witness audits, and technical knowledge sharing.
Ensure high performance through clear direction, accountability, and alignment to certification objectives.
Stakeholder & Client Engagement
Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and delivery of high-quality assurance services.
Provide technical advice and guidance to clients on certification pathways and fire protection system compliance.
Liaise with regulatory bodies, certification authorities, and accreditation schemes on assurance matters.
Documentation & Reporting
Oversee preparation of audit reports, inspection documentation, and certification records.
Ensure accurate data entry and management within certification systems and reporting platforms.
Deliver structured reports to senior management highlighting certification status, audit outcomes, non-conformities, and corrective actions.

Competencies
Fire Protection Technical Authority — 20+ years’ experience in fire safety engineering, system inspections, and certification across water-based suppression, detection and alarm/signalling systems.
Multi-Standard Mastery — Fluent application of VdS, NFPA, FM Global, EN and DIN standards in design assessment, inspection and certification activities.
Audit, Inspection & Assessment — Proven capability conducting inspections and assessments of fire protection installation companies applying for VdS certification across Europe
Procedure Development — Demonstrated ability to create, maintain and enhance certification procedures, internal guidelines, and translate technical standards.
Team Leadership & Coordination — Experienced in administrative, organisational and technical supervision; onboarding, scheduling, mentoring and supervising multidisciplinary technical inspection teams.
Compliance & Governance — Strong track record ensuring full compliance with certification rules, internal procedures and VdS , NPFA , FM Global , EN & DIN guidelines, including accurate system data management.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement — Skilled at building strong, long-term customer relationships through clear, professional communication with installation companies, regulators and certification bodies.
Reporting & Documentation — Highly organised and analytical, with proven competence preparing inspection reports and managing the full documentation lifecycle to audit-ready standard.
Training & Knowledge Transfer — Experienced trainer on fire alarm and signalling systems, supporting capability building across technical teams and clients.
Resilience & Delivery Focus — Demonstrated ability to work independently and under time pressure while maintaining quality and accuracy.
Essential Criteria
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 15 years’ experience in fire safety engineering, certification, system inspections, and project supervision — 20+ years preferred.
Demonstrable experience leading certification procedures and audits against VdS, NFPA, FM Global and EN standards for fire protection installation companies.
Previous experience in fire protection construction operations, system inspections and design assessment across multiple international markets (Europe )
Senior leadership track record
Professional qualification in Fire Protection / Mechanical / Building Services Engineering (Degree level or equivalent).
Recognised VdS Fire Protection Expert status (or equivalent scheme-recognised expert/auditor accreditation).
Proven experience creating and maintaining certification procedures for fire protection installation companies operating internationally.
Strong capability supervising administrative, organisational and technical activities of a technical inspection services function.
Experience conducting training on fire alarm and signalling systems and supporting development of technical guidelines.
Fluent written and spoken English.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally across Europe — travel will be required for this position.
Right to work in the EU.
Desirable Criteria
Senior leadership experience within a Notified / Inspection / Certification Body
Experience managing certification system data entry and digital certification platforms in line with scheme guidelines.
Experience onboarding, scheduling and supervising multidisciplinary technical inspection teams across multiple sites/countries.
Familiarity with fire detection, alarm and signalling system standards at SME level.
Experience assessing fire protection designs at concept stage in addition to installation/commissioning inspection.
Background in handling operational issues and proposing structured improvements within a certification or inspection services environment.
Demonstrated commitment to CPD and analytical, quality-driven delivery under time pressure.
