The Institut für Gebirgsmechanik GmbH specialises in solving geomechanical issues relating to the use of salt formations. For more than 30 years, our interdisciplinary team of physicists, geotechnical engineers, geoscientists, and engineers has been working on national and international projects in the fields of salt mining, underground energy storage in salt caverns, and final storage of hazardous materials. Together with our partners from science and industry, we develop innovative concepts for the geotechnical challenges of the 21st century.
We are currently seeking a permanent employee to handle the engineering aspects of our extensive projects and advise our customers.
Geotechnical engineer / civil or mining engineer / physicist (m/f/d) with an interest in numerical modelling
Job site: Leipzig
Your tasks
Numerical modelling:
Development of two- and three-dimensional rock mechanics models using CAD and numerical software
Performing numerical calculations and analyses, including for stability and design tasks in mining, final storage, and cavern storage
Projectwork:
Preparation and support of geomechanical investigations
Planning of rock mechanics laboratory and in situ investigations in collaboration with our in-house laboratory and our field measurement team
Technical planning and consulting, including on safety concepts and long-term safety in underground mining
Preparation of geomechanical reports and presentation to clients, experts, and specialist authorities
Collaboration in the scientific community:
Participation in research and development projects
Participation in specialist conferences in Germany and abroad
Your profile
Completed degree in geotechnical engineering, mining, civil engineering, geosciences, physics, mathematics, or similar
Interest in working with computer models and experience in numerical modeling, preferably with ITASCA numerical software
Interest in geology, energy and natural gas storage, final storage, and mining
Independent, determined, and conscientious approach to work, willingness to learn, and ability to work in a team
Good written and spoken German with the ability to present complex issues in an understandable way (native speaker or language level C2)
Good knowledge of English
